Playing Padel on Vacation

EcoVillage on the sea in Tuscany

Summer is coming! Most of you are most likely looking forward to sunbathing, swimming in crystal clear waters, and relaxing on a beautiful golden sand beach. If you are looking to have fun while also breaking a sweat, you could be interested in learning the fundamentals of an exciting, new sport: Padel.

As a matter of fact, Summer 2021 will certainly feature a brand new and very popular hit; this original sport is becoming something of a buzzword lately as one of the fastest growing sports in the world and its popularity is reaching new heights, especially among athletes and sports enthusiasts.

What am I talking about? Padel, obviously!

Have you heard about it? If you have not, do not worry. I will tell you right away what it is all about. Once you try it, you will definitely love it!

Enjoy Padel

For starters, Padel is a sport accessible for everyone: it is very easy to learn how to play. Padel first originated in Mexico as an adaptation of tennis, and then slowly spread all over the world, eventually reaching Italy in 1991. Although this sport has been around for the past thirty years, its popularity grew exponentially in 2019 and 2020.

Padel is typically played in doubles and can be described as a hybrid between traditional tennis and squash. As far as the racket is concerned, it looks like a cross between a regular tennis racket and a table tennis racket. The Padel court, 20 meters long and 10 meters wide, is smaller than a normal tennis court. The most striking difference is that the Padel court is actually enclosed by walls (sometimes made of plexiglass or crystal) that play an active role in the game, as the balls can be played off them in a similar way as in squash. This sport is very entertaining and once you learn the few, basic rules, you will have a lot of fun playing several games with your friends. Padel follows the exact same scoring system as tennis.
